| GENERATION FOR CHANGE AND GROWTH, INC. |
Generation for Change and Growth (GCG) is a non-profit organization operating under the Internal Revenue Code 501 (c)(3) of the IRS of United States of America. GCG is also registered with NGO council of Kenya as Non-governmental, Non-profit organization. The organization was founded in November of 2002. |
GCG promotes Education, Technology and Health Care in regions of the world where these basic needs are primarily limited by poverty and disproportionate appropriation of resources. We are in a 21st Century where hundreds of thousands of poor Children still have no access to a very basic education and Health Care. Today, thousands of girls cannot access school even when there is opportunity due to cultural constraints and gender disparities. Many others die from immunizable illnesses. Kenyan children fit well into this category. In communities living in Northern Kenya and many other remote regions, there is a sense of resignation - a circumstance of fate and nature in which human intervention can do little. At GCG, we think different. Wth your partnership, we can make a massive change. |

| CURRENT FOCUS |
| Kenya: |
Northern Kenyan Communities lag far behind the rest of Kenya and by extension the larger E. African communities in terms of Education, Technology, Health and Economy. The region is known to have the lowest enrolment in schools and the lowest performance in annual assessment exams. Furthermore, according to the United Nations, kenya's North E. province has the least number of girls enrolment in primary schools in the whole world. And according to Kenya's Ministry of Education, over 40% of school aged children (>150,000) in the region are not in school. Other sources suggest figures from the Ministry of Education are under estimated. |
Medical and Healthcare services are scarcely available leading to alarming increase in the rates of killer diseases like Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Malaria and, Maternal and Child death and Immunizable diseases among others. There are only 12 doctors serving a population of 1.5 million. GCG has therefore taken the initiative to work with these communities to ameliorate the intensity of healthcare crisis. |
It is to this end, GCG has undertaken massive compaign programs to promote education, access to technology and basic Health Care in this impoverished remote region of Kenya. |

| United States: |
The expansion of GCG's service outreach to United States extends to the hundred thousands of refugees from these areas. Within Minnesota's Twin Cities Metropolitan Area the current focus is on education and access to technology. GCG provides culturally appropriate mentoring and tutoring programs in order to promote academic success for students in Pre-K through Graduate School. The organization accomplishes its mission through partnership with the local community, non-profit organizations, institutions like schools and hospitals, women groups and volunteer services. |
Currently we are seeing thousands of refugee children being underserved in our public schools. They are being placed in classes based on age, not educational attainment; they are given only three years of direct ESL instruction regardless of language fluency. There are no mechanisms for special placements or exemption from state testing requirements even though there is no chance they are ready to perform well on the tests, (or frequently even ready to complete them). As a result of these needs from within the community the agency has developed this local initiative, to provide mentoring and tutoring services to refugee children. |
