Empowering the Community
Omar Sheikh Abdullah is not the CEO of Multimillion dollar company, a celeberity or a governer. But he successfully delivered a priceless commodity and continues to provide services to communities of North eastern province of Kenya. Omar is a manager with Barclays Bank of kenya. He raised funds for and built the first library in Mandera District. He also trained head teachers of North eastern on issues of financial management and was able to donate several computers to schools. In recognition for his outstanding and examplary efforts, Barclays bank chairman has awarded Omar the prestigious annual community achievement of the year(2004). Omar has also received the Outstanding service to education award from Generati0n for Change and Growth, Inc. (GCG). Omar has become an icon who stands to inspire the youth and empower the community.
"By enthusing his colleagues, Omar has raised over 2.5 million Kenya shillings (£17 500) to build a school library in rural Kenya. Inspired by national exam failure in the north of the country, Omar undertook a great deal of research and planning to produce a proposal for a sustainable resource for local people.
